The Wye River is one of the best kayaking rivers in the UK, if not in Europe.
We have paddled all of the Wye River from above Glasbury all the way down to Chepstow.
The River Wye is about 250km long and one of the longest rivers in Britain. It is mostly unaltered with no large man-made structures such as weirs on the main stem of the river or on most of the tributaries.
From Hay to Whitney, the Wye flows between the Black Mountains and the Radnorshire Hills. Here the river is generally shallow, with minor rapids and several long pools. From Whitney to Hereford, the character of the river changes as it meanders through a broad floodplain. Below Bredwardine, the channel narrows before entering a wide valley with high banks upstream of Ross-on-Wye. From here, the river enters perhaps the most dramatic section, with spectacular views and deep wooded gorges down to Chepstow where it enters the Severn Estuary.
